when all the main roads become clogged with stalls selling handicrafts,
silk scarves, sarongs and a variety of beach clothes, leisure wear,
leather goods and luggage, CDs, computer games and electronic gadgets

In Kata, most of the shopping in an area called Kata Centre along Taina Rd and Patak Rd near Dino Park. These roads are lined
with shops and restaurants catering to tourists. They are quiet
by day but can get busy with pedestrians in the cooler evening hours
- many of the street stalls don't even open until 18:00 or so. There
are also some shops along a short stretch of road behind Club Med,
including a bathing suit boutique, some tailor shops and a secondhand

Shopping in Karon starts at the beach traffic circle. Here, you
will find a supermarket for all your drinks/snacks and hygiene needs.
If you walk up the main road towards Karon's Buddhist temple you'd
be forgiven for thinking that the area is made up entirely of photo
labs, pharmacies, banks and tailors and more tailors and more bars

historical downtown area, 'Old Phuket', has some of the most
interesting shops for traditional Thai crafts and textiles, as well
as antiques, clothing and souvenirs -- with the beautifully restored
Sino-Portuguese buildings and exotic sights and smells, the busy

Kamala isn't the place
to go for shopping, but it does provide an enjoyable twice-weekly village market. Held each Wednesday and Saturday afternoon
along the highway at the southern end of the bay, it's colourful

The shopping options in Bang Tao are a bit of a dichotomy. There are the rustic open-air markets
that the locals use, then there are the resort and upscale boutiques
selling the finest Thai handicrafts, textiles and more. And not

Surin is not much of a shopping
destination but there are some interesting places to stop in at
if you're in the area. Just a few doors down from Twin Palms Lemongrass
offers locally-made natural health and beauty products. Nearby is
a lovely boutique selling antiques from China, Burma, Laos
and Cambodia.
